Lucas Gilbert grew up in the town of Mwanza near Serengeti National Park but Kilimanjaro’s snowy peark always commanded an important place in his imagination.Hi uncle Protus Mayunga and hi grandfather Simon Mayunga have guided clients to over 1000 successful summits in over 30 years of guiding. Lucas himself has reached the summit over 120 times in the previous five years.

I love nature and sharing it with people. My home country of Tanzania is very special place because we have the highest mountain in Africa, My Kilimanjaro at 19k with many different plants and animals living there. Also in Tanzania, Ngorongoro is where the Massai people live closely with their own domesticated animals and side by side with wild animals like giraffes, rhinos, elephants, lions, and more.

Lucas Gilbert’s Experience

In my 10 years of experience in guiding on Kilimanjaro and in the Serengeti, I have grown as a leader of trips. I began as a porter when I was 25, moved on to being a sheriff for Kilimanjaro National Park, and then attended guide school so I could better share my joy in nature with others.
